Manatee Pottery
Since 2002, Eileen Van Lieshout has been creating pottery that is both functional and artistically distinctive. Originally from California, she earned her degree from USC before embarking on a journey that would take her around the world — renting studio space wherever she lived and continuing to refine her craft along the way.
In 2013, Eileen and her husband, Pete, discovered the Village of the Arts in Bradenton and opened Manatee Pottery, where they spent four memorable years contributing to the creative fabric of the community. Their artistic journey has since led them to San Francisco, California, where they continue the adventure and evolution of their work.
Every piece Eileen creates is entirely handmade. Most begin on the potter’s wheel, then are thoughtfully altered with hand-pulled handles or intricate freehand carvings that give each form its own personality. The work undergoes two separate kiln firings — each lasting approximately 24 hours — reaching temperatures of up to 2300°F. Between firings, she carefully layers glazes to produce dynamic surface patterns and rich tonal variations. The result is original, functional art pottery designed for both beauty and everyday use.
All Manatee Pottery pieces are fully functional — oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe (though hand washing is recommended to preserve longevity). They should not be used on stovetops or exposed to sudden temperature changes, such as transferring directly from oven to cold water. Every glaze is lead-free and food-safe, ensuring both aesthetic integrity and practical reliability.
